Make sounds for free. Bring them into your DAW when you’re ready.
Standalone, always free.
VST3 + AU, $79.99 USD once.
One purchase activates the VST3 and AU plug-ins on two Macs at a time and includes all future Ratio9 software updates, including major versions. Activation files work offline and do not expire. Any AI account or subscription is optional and separate.
Alpha release: complex presets can cause CPU spikes or audio dropouts. Compatibility testing is ongoing. For Apple silicon Macs running macOS 12 or later.
Removing a Mac frees its place but does not switch off a file already saved there. After a full refund, no new activation files are issued for that purchase; earlier files keep working offline. Any applicable tax is shown at checkout before you pay.
A little setup. A lot of possibility.
From install to inspiration.
Get started with Ratio9 for Mac.
Install once.
Open Ratio9 1.2.1.pkg and choose Continue. Choose the formats to install: the free Standalone app and the VST3 and AU plug-ins, which need activation. The macOS Installer asks for an administrator’s password if needed.
Find your sound.
Open Ratio9 from your Applications folder. The synth, Labs, 42 factory presets and 220 factory wavetables are together in one installation. Browse a preset or start from Init and make it yours.
Bring your AI. If you want.
Click the robot in Ratio9’s header to open the AI connection panel. Copy AI Setup gives the settings to add Ratio9’s AI helper to any AI app that supports local stdio MCP servers. Copy AI Prompt gives your assistant its starting prompt, and Open AI Information opens the included guides. AI stays off until you choose Enable AI.
Ratio9 includes the AI helper’s runtime. You won’t need a separate Python installation. Copy AI Setup provides the connection settings; you choose and install your AI client separately. The included AI Information folder gives the connection steps and lists every parameter and AI function, for you and your assistant. Sharing it teaches an AI about Ratio9 but doesn’t connect it.
Will I need separate downloads for each plug-in?
No. One Ratio9 installer for Mac lets you choose the free Standalone app and the VST3 and AU plug-ins. Future updates use this same download page.
How much does Ratio9 cost?
The Standalone app is free, including Labs and AI connectivity. The VST3 and AU plug-ins are one purchase of $79.99 USD, paid once; any applicable tax is shown at checkout before you pay. One purchase activates two Macs at a time and includes all future Ratio9 software updates, including major versions. Any AI account or subscription is optional and separate.
How does plug-in activation work?
Each Mac gets an activation file that works offline and does not expire. Removing a Mac in your account frees one of your two places for another Mac; it does not switch off a file already saved on the removed Mac. After a full refund, no new activation files can be downloaded or reissued for that purchase, while files downloaded before the refund keep working offline.
Which Macs is it for?
Ratio9 1.2.1 is for Apple silicon Macs (M1 or later) running macOS 12 or later. Intel Mac, Windows and Linux downloads are not offered. Check the requirements on the release file before installing.
Can I load it in my DAW?
The installer includes the VST3 and AU plug-ins. They need a purchase and activation on each Mac. AAX, CLAP and LV2 are not available.
Which AI can connect?
Any AI client that can run a local stdio MCP server on your Mac, using the settings from Copy AI Setup. Ratio9’s AI control has been used with Claude Code. Other clients are expected to work the same way but haven’t all been tested. A browser chat, or support for remote MCP alone, is not enough.
Do I need AI to use Ratio9?
No. The synth works on its own, and AI control starts off. Enable it when you want help. An AI account or subscription is separate from Ratio9. Only one AI client can hold the editing connection at a time.
What happens to my presets and wavetables?
They have their own library folders, separate from the app. Installing Ratio9 keeps your existing presets and custom wavetables as they are. The installer puts 42 presets and 220 wavetables in a separate factory library, shared by everyone on your Mac.
Is the AI connection private?
The connection to Ratio9 runs locally on your Mac. Your chosen AI client may send tool data to its model provider, so that provider’s privacy settings and policies still apply. Local MCP does not mean the AI itself runs offline.
How do I uninstall Ratio9?
Quit Ratio9, then in Finder move it from your Applications folder to the Trash, entering an administrator’s password if asked. Your own presets, wavetables and settings are kept. Removing the shared factory library and the AI Information folder is optional; the uninstall guide included in AI Information explains how.
